Gogo’s GTO connectivity to fly first as FAA greenlights testing

Commercial aviation took another step towards accessing faster inflight connectivity today as Gogo received certification from the FAA to begin testing an important part of its new 2Ku Internet service on board the company’s Boeing 737-500 flying testbed.

The STC certification means that Gogo is now permitted to operate the 737 with its new radome, antenna, and other systems necessary to handle the connectivity requirements. Initial testing will involve only one ThinKom-made Ku-band antenna installed under the radome, but there is room for two.

Malindo Air launches onboard Wi-Fi for 737-900ERs

Malaysian carrier Malindo Air has launched its onboard Wi-Fi product, which is being rolled out across its fleet of Boeing 737-900ER aircraft.

The low-cost carrier’s ‘Malindo Wi-Fi’ service is powered by Panasonic Avionics’ eXConnect service and the new in-flight phone service, which allows passengers to use their voice, data, SMS and browsing services, is powered by eXPhone, which is delivered by Panasonic Avionics in cooperation with AeroMobile.

Transaero Unveils New Livery

Transaero Airlines announced a new corporate identity and livery. The new design replaces the one that has been in use for over two decades.

The carrier showed off the new design as it took delivery of a new Boeing 737-800 on Friday. The aircraft, which has a two-cabin configuration with business and economy cabins with a Boeing Sky Interior, will be used on medium-haul domestic and international routes. It will offer passengers high-speed Internet and mobile communications services.

Malindo Air claims first to offer inflight web surfing

KUALA LUMPUR, May 14 — Malindo Air is to offer an unlimited broad-based web surfing service on its Boeing 737-900ER aircraft.

The hybrid airline has selected Panasonic Avionics and Aeromobile for in-flight communications and officially becomes the first in the region to offer unlimited broad-based web surfing, named Malindo WiFi and Malindo Mobile, the company said in a statement.

ANA’s first 787-9 enters service with live TV and onboard Wi-Fi

All Nippon Airways’ (ANA) first Boeing 787-9 has entered service on the Tokyo Haneda-Munich route, bringing with it a notable in-flight entertainment (IFE) upgrade, including live TV. It is also the first 787 in the Japanese carrier’s fleet to offer its in-flight Wi-Fi service.
